Key Signs Your HGV’s Air Conditioning Is Failing
There are several vital signs that your HGV’s air conditioning system is failing and many of them are relatively straightforward to spot. In this article, we take a closer look at some of the key signs to watch out for, should you believe your HVAC system may be losing its power.
No Air Flow
The most obvious sign that there’s an issue with your HGV’s air conditioning and HVAC system as a whole is thankfully incredibly easy to spot. If there is no air flowing from your vents, be it hot or cold, then there is clearly a problem with the unit. This can be a whole manner of things but typically comes down to empty coolant/refrigerant or a clog within the system.
Inconsistent Air Temperature
Air conditioning units are designed to blast icy, cold air all day long, so if this is no longer happening as it should, there’s definitely a problem with your HVAC system somewhere along the line. If your HGV’s air conditioning unit is simply blowing cool or warm air, even if your AC is turned all the way up to eleven, then you should have your truck’s HVAC unit inspected as soon as you can.
Strange Noises
Strange noises, no matter where they originate, are always a cause for concern. Undoubtedly, this remains the same when it comes to your truck’s HVAC system, so if you begin to hear a mix of rattling, banging or whining noises when your AC unit is turned on, it could be a sign of an issue within the system. Typically, this will usually be something as simple as a build-up of dust or debris, but can also be an indication of a worn-out mechanism that will need replacing.
Bad Smells
No one likes a nasty odour. If your AC unit is starting to unleash a combination of bad smells or foul odours when blowing air, this is typically a sign that your air filters need cleaning or replacing. Bad smells coming from your AC unit can be related to the build-up of mould or mildew within the system and should be treated seriously, due to the increased health risk of respiratory issues influenced by poor air quality.
Water Pooling
A puddle of water forming underneath your HGV is relatively normal when it comes to a fully operating AC unit, but if these leaks and pools of water start to form inside the cabin, it could be a sign of a real problem. Whenever an AC unit is switched on, condensed water from the evaporator is meant to drain away, but if there’s a clog within the HVAC system, this water will leak into the cabin instead.
